Jumping Jacks Preschool

 

All programs have a Family Centered Practice as their philosophy; the staff believe that parents know their children best, and should be actively involved in all decisions about their children.

Summer Daycamp

Adventurer's Summer Day Camps are for children between the ages of 6 - 11. Children must have completed kindergarten in order to attend. Day Camps run Monday - Friday in July and August. Themes may include Drama, Art, Sports, Exploration and Water Activities. Registration usually occurs in May of each year.

Infant Development

The Infant Development Program supports families who are raising young children at risk for a delay or with a developmental delay or disability.  The Infant Development Program Consultant visits families in their homes, provides ideas to help with the child’s development and can also lend toys, books and equipment if requested. 

The Consultant also provides information about child development and supports parents as they learn about their child.  The Consultant can conduct developmental screenings and/or assessments, provides information about child development and supports parents as they learn about their child.  Frequency and length of visits is determined by the parents.  The Consultant can also arrange for appointments with specialist therapists like a Physical Therapist, an Occupational Therapist and a Speech Language Therapist.

Any parent who has questions about their young child (birth to three years) may contact the Infant Development program.

Supported Child Development Program

The Supported Childcare Program is for children aged 3-6 years whose parents, or caregivers, are concerned about the child’s development.  This can be any area of development -- fine or gross motor, speech, behavior, or social/emotional – or any area that is of concern to the parent.

Appointments with specialist therapists (Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Language Therapist) can also be arranged.

Just like the Infant Development Program, the visits occur in the home but can also take place in the preschool or daycare that the child is attending.  Extra staff support can be provided to ensure the child can fully participate in all aspects of the preschool or daycare and also to be successful in a childcare setting.

Community Connectors

The Community Connectors Program is for school aged children who have developmental difficulties or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Programs are tailored to meet each child's unique needs and interests.  Examples of program activities include participating in a variety of recreational and leisure activities (swimming, bowling, hiking, biking), developing life and social skills and  work experience placements.

Respite

Respite is available for families whose children have a diagnosis of developmental delay, autism or a physical handicap. Parents may provide their own caregiver or the program can find an appropriate caregiver for families.  Children can be cared for in their own home, or the caregiver’s home – this is arranged between the parents and caregivers.

Jumping Jacks Preschool

Community Connections’ Jumping Jacks is a licensed Preschool for children between the ages of 3 and 5.  We offer two classes to choose from:  Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday.  Classes are delivered by qualified Early Childhood Educators, and run between 9:00 and 11:30am. 

The program provides a caring and stimulating environment where children have fun while learning and developing a strong educational foundation.  Activities include art, singing, games, puzzles, books, toys, movement and more.  Children who need extra support to be successful in Jumping Jacks can access the services of the Supported Child Development program also provided by Community Connections.

The staff at Jumping Jacks are delighted to be the only Preschool in Revelstoke offering the Seeds of Empathy program.  This program uses children’s literature and an interactive curriculum to foster social and emotional competence and early literacy skills.  The children learn about feelings - their own feelings and the feelings of others.  By observing a baby, who visits the Preschool once every three weeks, children learn to read the cues the baby gives as to how she/he is feeling.  “Is the baby happy or sad?”  “How can you tell?”

The Seeds of Empathy program is the younger sibling of the Roots of Empathy program for school age children and is already implemented in Revelstoke schools.  For more information please visit the website at www.seedsofempathy.org

Jumping Jacks follows the school year and fees are paid monthly throughout the school year.
